With the news this week that the Rideau Canal Skateway has closed for the season and warmer temperatures in the forecast, it feels like we’re slowly but surely making our way towards spring. This weekend we’ve got an exciting mix of St. Patrick’s Day festivities and March break activities.

The power of a film score is undeniable. Building fear, excitement, joy or sadness and elevating the impact of a story. Ottawa Pops Orchestra (OPO) brings us an entire concert dedicated to film composer Hans Zimmer, with The Music of Hans Zimmer. For two nights only (and one matinee) you can be enchanted by some of your favourite movie scores live!

Even those of us who aren’t big fans of winter are happy to see the canal opened, which means we can officially enjoy winter! Details below on how to check canal skate conditions and openings/closures, but also lots of indoor activities if you need to warm up.

If you just can’t get enough of all the holiday music ringing through the chilly air, there are still some holiday concerts to look forward to in the upcoming weeks to Christmas.

For their end-of-season performance, the Ottawa Pops Orchestra (OPO) will be shocking and surprising audiences for a top secret concert experience at the Carleton Dominion Chalmers Centre on April 20. Expect the Unexpected: A Musical Surprise hopes to attract both season regulars and newcomers not only to the OPO, but to the world of orchestra in general.

Break out the stretchy pants and walking shoes Ottawa! The summer is in full swing with food festivals, yoga festivals, film festivals, and shopping festivals (okay, that last one is a bit of a stretch…).

Happy June, everyone! The city continues to come alive as the sun gets hotter and the days get longer.
