613 Style File: Men’s Clothing Swap Edition

Photographs and text by Stephan Telka

In mid-June, Raw Sugar played host to one of Ottawa’s first Men’s Clothing Swaps. Finally a chance for the men of Ottawa to come together to get rid of some gently used clothing and pick up a few new pieces! Style File reporter Stephan Telka was on the scene to capture some of the cool and some of the quirky finds. The organizers are hoping to make this a regular occurrence, so check back in the coming months for the next date.

613 Style File: Fringe Festival Edition!

Thespians are known for their attention grabbing ways, but does their flare for the dramatic extend to the wardrobe? Melanie Yugo, crafter extraordinaire and co-founder of Spins & Needles, and Lauryn Kronick, a vintage-obsessed fashion junkie, were on hand at the 2011 Fringe Festival to find out. While the festival ended last week, we hope that some of the styles that made their way to the famous fringe beer tent last all summer long.

The Apt613 Style File: Great Glebe Garage Sale Edition

Stephan Telka takes the reins for Apartment613′s Style File team this week, giving our usual fashionista-finders Melanie Yugo and Lauryn Kronick a break. All photos and text by Stephan.

While there was no shortage of “yoga” pants and Mountain Equipment Coop/North Face gear on display at yesterday’s Great Glebe Garage Sale (not to mention the wares for sale), I was lucky enough to cross paths with a handful of Ottawans who stood out from the crowd. I doff my hat to them, as they effortlessly rose the fashion bar on a rainy Saturday morning.

613 Style File: PROMdemonium edition

613 Style File - Promdemonium - April 2011

With the coming of spring, Ottawans strip off their bulky winter shells to reveal the fashionistas and fashionistos hidden beneath. The return of warm weather fashions also means the return of Apartment613′s Style File team and their tireless pursuit of the fabulous.  Melanie Yugo, crafter extraordinaire and co-founder of Spins & Needles, and Lauryn Kronick, a vintage-obsessed fashion junkie, compile the 613 Style File. This month the ladies hit up PROMdemonium, Ottawa favourite radical, community-oriented, gender-bendin’, bike-lovin’, enviro-humpin’, queer-diggin’, slow dancin’, big dress wearin’ dance party. With outfits ranging from elegant to outrageous, what better way to kick off the beginning of the fashion-hunting season!

The 613 Style File

As lots of independent shops and cool events continue to pop up in the city, we couldn’t help but notice that the city is home to some extremely fashion-forward, stylish people. Melanie Yugo, crafter extraordinaire and co-founder of Spins & Needles, and Lauryn Kronick, a vintage-obsessed fashion junkie, are starting a new column in Apartment613 that will (usually) air on the third Friday of the month. The column aims to debunk the myth that Ottawa is the town that fashion forgot. Inspired by other style blogs, they’re hitting the streets to profile interesting fashion eye-candy in different places and at events. So keep your eyes out and funk up your style – you never know when they may capture your look!
