Big News Week for Beau’s Brewery – Oh Yeah!

Apartment613 has a long history with beer…in many ways, we actually credit beer with this blog’s creation. We’re also huge fans of Beau’s Brewery in Vankleek Hill - we had a great time at their Oktoberfest party and we broke the news last summer when they released their IPA.

It seems that things are only going up for Beau’s as they expanded into the Toronto market recently and have now announced their much anticipated four-packs are available at the LCBO. Honestly, it wasn’t a huge burden to have to finish a whole 750 ml at a time, but the new format is a great move. As you can see from the photo above, they seem to be selling well.

The guys from Beau’s tell me that the new four packs are thanks to a new bottling line that they now have installed meaning that they don’t need to fill each of those four packs by hand - like all of the ceramic jugs were.

This week also marked the release of Beau’s now famous seasonal brews - one of which will be an IPA, the other charmingly called “Matt’s Sleepytime Stout”. The stout is part of Beau’s plan to experiment with more challenging beer selections.

In case you’re looking for an excuse to see the Beau’s magic happen in person, they are hosting an evening of music and BBQ to celebrate earth hour next weekend. All of this adds up to a pretty good reason to visit Vankleek Hill, or at the very least the LCBO.

From the Beau’s Facebook message:

Beaver River is a part of Beau’s on-going seasonals program, complimenting its flagship LugTread with a rotating seasonal beer. As its Spring seasonal, Beaver River is an authentic India Pale Ale, designed to appeal to hop-heads. This year the beer has been dry-hopped as well, to amplify the Pacific Gem and Summit hop aromas. Beaver River is named after the Riviere Castor which connects Ottawa to many Eastern Ontario towns and villages.

Matt’s Sleepytime Stout is the first of Beau’s new Wild Oats program. The wild oats program is designed to explore some of the most challenging styles in beer to provide truly unique taste experiences. Sleepytime is an Imperial Stout (8% abv), fermented with Belgian yeast and aged with oak staves. Tastes of chocolate, coffee and vanilla are complimented with American hops and a true Belgian-character in the finish.

Drink on Ottawa!

For those without cars, these were a major pain. The deposit was high, and they couldn’t be returned anywhere convenient.

For those who can’t make it out to Beau’s to return bottles, they have also partnered with Operaton Go Home so you can return your bottles and donate the proceeds: http://www.beaus.ca/en-bottlereturn.html.

    How is their IPA?

I really hate it when some beers *cough* Alexander Keith’s, claim to be an IPA and taste like your average run-of-the-mill flavourless lager.

“flavourless” is a bit of an exaggeration.

Just so everyone knows, you can still donate your empties to Operation Come Home at the drop-off locations and Beau’s will match the contribution (an extra 10 cents per bottle)!
