Ottawa might not be known as a foodie capital, but there is no doubt that there is something of a food culture living below the surface of our city. A world-class culinary school and top-notch restaurants certainly help, but the lifeblood of any foodie community (and we hope any community really) is its bloggers - an area where Ottawa is excelling!
The institution of Food Blogging has really taken off - I’ve followed about ten new ones since watching Julie and Julia alone. In my Google Reader list there are a couple of local Ottawa folks who I keep going back to. This list is in no way comprehensive! I’ll add your suggestions to my feed reader and do another post on this ASAP.
Honourable mentions for online food enthusiasm must go to Ron Eade at the Ottawa Citizen and whoever is behind Ottawa Foodies, the go-to resource for many looking for user reviews of Ottawa restaurants and markets.
foodiePrints - Don and team at foodiePrints put out a pile of great content, talking restaurants, cooking and generally being great food community members. He also runs the elite brunch club, who are tasting the best that the morning shift has to offer. They also seem to be a bit obsessed with Pho over there.
le jeune gourmand - Dominic Maggiolo is le jeune gourmand and runs the beautiful blog i eat, i write. He’s also a sometimes-contributor to Apartment613, adding his foodie credibility to our site.
Whisk - Shari from Whisk started blogging her way through Le Cordon Bleu cookbooks, then curriculum, and also writes about food and wine for the Metro. Her blog is really pretty and the photos make it feel like a glossy food magazine.

Guess my comment didn’t make it the first time around.
Anyhow, thanks for the mention!

Ottawa IS known as a foodie capital…
Thanks for using my picture! If anyone is interested in my blog it is all about vegan/vegetarian food, and contains a lot of posts relating to eating vegetarian food in Ottawa, too!

Thank you for the kind words about my blog. I am a big fan of Marysol at She Eats Bears: http://sheeatsbears.blogspot.com. Her blog is lovely and whimsical, and her photos are charming. And Rachelle Eats Food because she writes so well and posts so often: http://rachelleeatsfood.blogspot.com/. You must also check out Ottawa Foodies: http://ottawafoodies.com. It’s a wonderful community site by Mark Warburton and the collective voice of all Ottawa’s hungry foodies!
Thanks for all the yummy comments folks! I can feel a Food Blogger post redux coming on… perhaps a vegan theme?
Food blogging has become insanely saturated and cliché with too many RSS-feed taught cooks and not enough chefs. It has taken on a quasi-authoritative form somewhere in the fueling of Ottawa’s current foodie fad craze. The attention should be put on the few who are skillfully creative and manage to arouse our palates through memorable surprises at local eateries. Let the food do the talking, not the bloggers. The glebe doesn’t need anymore kitchen fires.
Amen, Joe Blobs.
After a few years of blogging it is nice to find other local foodies. It will inspire me to get back at it.

Okay so my two favourite food blogs are http://www.foodieprints.com (Don and Jenn) and the lemon kitchen http://ottawafood.wordpress.com
