Thanks to Shawna for inspiring us to do this post!

This is the second in a series we’re doing all about buying local this holiday season.

.

Part of what I love about this city is the underground craft scene. As evident at the craft shows of the past few weeks, Ottawa is bursting at the seams with creators and artists.

With that in mind, we’re featuring several Ottawans who share their wares on Etsy (the ultimate online crafting destination). All of these gift ideas are made by folks within the city limits. And this is just a small sampling – there are even more Ottawans listed on Etsy itself! Just click on their shop local option and start shopping from the comfort of your couch.

The ones displayed here are a few of my favourites. The hand-printed t-shirts by mchen are great one-of-a-kind gifts, and are comfortable to boot. Lilybug’s camera straps are not the only thing she makes – her guitar straps are also pretty awesome. And word has it that she’ll be doing dog collars soon!

In the jewelry section, we’ve got work here from Vanilla Daisy and Jasmine Virani, who both have some lovely silver pieces. And the cuffs by 3rdlife? Excellent for that indie rocker in your life – and while you’re buying that, try not to buy one of her bags for yourself (they are so tempting!).

For prints, Raceytay’s ethereal photography will light up any dull room. Also check out the photographs by Becca Wallace of The Pink Balloon Etsy shop – lovely.

Narrowing down the choices on Etsy to these six listed here was incredibly hard – do go and visit the shop local section to view more incredible craftiness and artistry.

And read our other 100 mile gift guide post all about new stores in the Market!

I never knew there was so many Etsy vendors in Ottawa…and when you add Gatineau to the list, it’s even more impressive!
