Bloggers out there will know who this man is, others might not. Cory Doctorow is one of the founding members of boingboing.net, the world’s 2nd most powerful blog according to The Guardian. Doctorow, aside from being a successful blogger at boingboing and craphound.com is also a fiction writer, journalist, activist and general smarty pants. He is a big proponent of creative commons (sharing some of his thoughts on the documentary RiP: A Remix Manifesto, among other things) and his areas of interest have included digital rights management, file sharing, and post scarcity economics.
In 2006, Doctorow was named the 2006-2007 Canadian Fulbright Chair in Public Diplomacy at the University of Southern California (USC) Center on Public Diplomacy in Los Angeles. The folks at Fulbright were nice enough to invite him to Ottawa; he was nice enough to accept. He’ll be speaking on “Diplomacy versus Universal Access to All Human Knowledge”, a topic that’s sure to stir up some interesting discussions. Don’t miss out!
The talk will take place on Thursday, September 17th at 5:00 pm at Cadieux Auditorium of the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (125 Sussex Drive). Also good to know: it’s FREE!

I saw Cory Doctorow speak a few times at the World Science Fiction Convention in August in Montreal. If you get a chance to check this out, I highly recommend it. He’s a great speaker, and has some interesting ideas.
He’ll be back in town Sept. 28 for a Writers’ Festival talk. That one will focus on his book, Little Brother. http://www.writersfestival.org/events.html
This looks interesting.
What bus goes to 125 Sussex?
The number 9, but you can walk from the market.
The 9 goes to 125 Sussex.
Another update on the Cory Doctorow front:
He’ll be giving an earlier talk at the University of Ottawa tomorrow. The university’s Centre for Law, Technology and Society will host the lecture in room FTX 359 in Fauteux Hall (54 Louis Pasteur) at 11:30 a.m.
I emailed the organizers and it is open to everyone (and also free).
I heard it rumoured that this was cancelled…can anyone confirm that it is still on? …i sure…hope so.
It’s for sure happening. The folks at Fulbright had a couple of potential venues, one of which was Library and Archives and for some reason their website shows it as cancelled but they settled on DFAIT and it is for sure happening at DFAIT, 125 Sussex Drive. See you there!
awww I missed it (((
