With an active writers festival, several poetry slams every month and a plethora of reading series taking place - Ottawa’s literary scene is producing great writers like never before. We’re hoping that Apartment613 can feature some of this great writing over the fall months with our Fall Fiction Contest. Here are the details:

We’re accepting entries of original fiction of 1000 words or less. There is no restriction on topic - but a local Ottawa hook is encouraged.

Entries will be judged by our esteemed panel of judges, including Amanda Putz of CBC Radio, Barbara Clubb, Ottawa’s Head Librarian and Richard Coxford, owner of the Bytown Bookshop.

The winning entry will not only receive the 15 minutes of online celebrity derived from a post on Apartment613, but also a free subscription to The Walrus Magazine (special thanks to the Walrus Magazine!). We’ll also feature some of the judges’ other favourite entries over the fall.

Budding writers or experienced wordsmiths - get out your pens and start writing. Your entries should be sent to editors@apt613.ca with Fall Fiction Contest in the subject line.

Deadline for entries is September 25th.

Just like to say that the winning entry will also be featured on the Audio Visual podcast, at the writer’s discretion. Interview/reading? I think so!

    That’s a fantastic idea Peter!
