The Dusk 'Til Dawn Movie Marathon will kick off with the Canadian heist film The Silent Partner
Any regular readers of this blog have probably noticed that I’ve talked about the Mayfair Theatre quite a bit. I can assure you they’re not paying me to do this. They’ve just given this movie fan a lot to write about. This weekend the mad geniuses at the Mayfair will go through with their craziest idea yet.
This Saturday will separate the true hardcore movie fans from the poseurs. The independent movie theatre will screen a true test of film watching endurance it is calling the Dusk ‘Til Dawn Movie Marathon. The name isn’t just some hyperbolic scheme to get butts in seats. Patrons will quite literally get to watch a B-movie marathon from dusk (9:30PM Saturday) until dawn (around 5 or 6AM Sunday).
If the thought of a sleepless night watching cheesy B-movies isn’t enough to get you out of the house a Saturday night, I should probably list the movies.
The Silent Partner (@ 9:30PM)
This Canadian heist film (who knew?!) was directed by Daryl Duke and released in 1978. It is notable for its score composed by the legendary jazz pianist Oscar Peterson and a very early screen appearance by John Candy. It also stars Christopher Plummer as a bank robber who isn’t too pleased after he botches his big robbery.
The film did very well financially when it was released and was a critical hit in Canada.
Incubus (11:20PM)
This Canadian horror film has nothing to do with the band of the same name. You can all breathe a sigh of relief now.
The movie was directed by John Hough and stars John Cassevetes as a physician who comes across a series of grotesque rapes. If you’re at all familiar with the Incubus that pops up in certain religious traditions you can probably guess where this is going…
A Mystery Movie (1AM)
This may be the most enticing part of the entire night/morning. No one knows what this movie will be until it actually screens at 1 in the morning. Apparently we “won’t be disappointed.”
Violence in a Women’s Prison aka Caged Women (2:45AM)
This Italian entry in the women in prison genre (yes, these films have their own category) is pretty much exactly like it sounds. If you’re offended by the title this probably won’t be your cup of tea. For everyone else it should present a sleazy good time at the movies.
Chained Heat (4:20AM)
This 1983 film directed by Paul Nicholas stars Linda Blair in her uneven post-Exorcist career. Much like the previous film, it is a sleazy women in prison romp that features “sadistic crack-selling lesbian rapists” and prison guards who aren’t that much nicer. It’s fun for the whole family!
The good people from the Mayfair will also screen some cheesy retro trailers throughout the night.
The marathon costs $20 for Mayfair members and $30 for non-members.

Cool! I was just talking about Sidney Bechet vs. Sarah Vaughan . This will prove helpful in the discussion.
